The Studio
My studio specializes in childhood and baby portrait photography, and we strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for both parents and children. I want your entire experience with us, from start to finish, to be stress-free and enjoyable! Babies and children often have their own ideas about schedules and priorities, and I remain flexible at all times to allow them the chance to get comfortable, get to know me, and show me who they are.
I use continuous lighting in my camera room, instead of strobes and flash, because I feel it is much less disruptive to a child and allows me to really capture both posed and un-posed moments without calling more attention to the camera than is necessary. I actually had a mom leave once thinking there wouldn’t be any good images from her session, as her little one had been a bit fussy and we’d stopped a few times so she could feed him, hold him, etc. She was truly blown away when she saw the slideshow at her presentation appointment. She had never realized that I had continued to shoot a little during each of those “stopped” times and had captured some breathtaking images of her with the baby, without either of them even realizing it – because there was no blast of bright light or popping to interrupt. The images created during those “in-between” moments often turn out to be the most beautiful of the session, as the emotional connections are allowed to really flourish. (These lights also remain cool, which lets us keep the temperature in the room warm but comfortable for everyone.)
Most of my portrait sessions take place in the studio, but I have several favorite outdoor locations around the Triangle as well. Spring is here and the gardens and parks in the area are blooming – it’s a fabulous time to be outside!
